James is the founder of an economic research firm which advises international companies on business trends.

He was educated at Winchester College and read Economics at Bristol University.  He studied law as a post graduate and practised for 7 years as a commercial solicitor.  He has an MBA from INSEAD, the international business school where he is now a guest lecturer on business strategy.

James is a regular commentator on radio and television for the BBC and other media channels on subjects relating to the UK Economy and the recent banking crisis.  He has argued for structural banking reform and has championed the rights of banking customers.

He is a business mentor for young urban entrepreneurs working with the Prince's Trust.  As the governor of a Further Education college, James believes in the power of apprenticeships and vocational training to transform the career prospects of young people and adults.

James has a long-standing belief in the practical impact of community projects.  He has raised funds and worked as a volunteer in a centre offering support for pensioners living on their own.  He has been a volunteer at a legal advice centre specialising in local housing disputes. After his studies, James joined the Political Section of the Conservative Research Department and prepared background briefing for ministers' and MPs' appearances on the BBC's 'Question Time' and 'Any Questions?'.

He has been an active campaigner on local issues for many years and Vice Chairman of his local ward.  Before the last election, he worked on the James Committee for taxpayer value - helping to identify waste in government spending.  He was a committee member of the campaigning group, Conservatives for Cities.

Speaking after his selection as the candidate for Blackley & Broughton, James said, "The people of Manchester are running out of reasons to vote for Labour.  My campaign is about giving them positive reasons to vote for the change this area desperately needs.  I want people to see that Conservatives are open and sincere about addressing their issues."

"Today's Conservatives see the best in people and bring out the best in people.  That's the kind of person I am.  That's the kind of candidate I am.  That's the kind of Member of Parliament I would be for Blackley & Broughton."
